What is the PgMP® certification?
The Program Management Professional (PgMP)® is PMI’s certification for experienced program professionals who manage multiple related projects and navigate complex initiatives to align program outcomes with organizational objectives.
The certification validates program-management capability across areas including strategic alignment, program lifecycle management, business alignment, stakeholder engagement, and governance.
Who is the PgMP® certification designed for?
PgMP® is designed for experienced project and program professionals who manage multiple related projects, complex initiatives, or programs spanning teams, functions, organizations, regions, or cultures.
It is particularly relevant for professionals who are already managing programs or taking on broader program-level leadership and coordination responsibilities.
What are the eligibility requirements for the PgMP® certification?
PMI currently provides three eligibility pathways:
Path A — Secondary Diploma
- 48 months of project management experience or PMP® certification
- 84 months of program management experience
Experience must have been earned within the past 15 years.
Path B — Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
- 48 months of project management experience or PMP® certification
- 48 months of program management experience
Experience must have been earned within the past 15 years.
Path C — GAC-Accredited Degree
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree from a GAC-accredited program
- 36 months of project management experience or PMP® certification
- 36 months of program management experience
Experience must have been earned within the past 15 years.
How does the PgMP® application process work?
The PgMP® certification process generally involves:
- Check eligibility — Confirm that you meet PMI’s education and experience requirements.
- Submit your application — Document your project and program management experience, including program objectives, responsibilities, projects, and experience summaries.
- Complete an audit, if selected — PMI may request supporting documentation to verify your eligibility.
- Complete the panel review — A panel of volunteer PgMP-certified program managers assesses the program-management experience documented in your application.
- Schedule and take the examination — After successfully completing the required application and panel-review process, you can schedule your exam.
We provide application writing and review guidance to help you present your genuine program-management experience clearly and accurately.
What is included in Augment’s PgMP® preparation programs?
The specific inclusions depend on the preparation path you choose. Depending on the program, resources may include:
- Self-paced learning content
- Exam-style practice questions
- Study and reference materials
- Key-concept videos
- Application review support
- Live mentoring sessions
- Personalized gap assessment
- Practical case studies
- Program-management templates
- Learner community access
The Live Mentoring Program provides a more structured and interactive preparation experience, while the Self-Paced Learning Program is designed for professionals who prefer greater flexibility.
What is the difference between PgMP® Self-Paced Learning and Live Mentoring?
The key difference is the level of structure and personalized support.
PgMP® Self-Paced Learning
- Learn according to your own schedule
- On-demand learning content
- Flexible study approach
- Practice questions and preparation resources
- Suitable for professionals comfortable managing their own preparation
PgMP® Live Mentoring
- Structured preparation journey
- Live interaction with the mentor
- Personalized gap assessment
- Application writing/review support
- Practical discussions and case studies
- Expert guidance throughout the preparation process
If you prefer flexibility and independent study, self-paced learning may be appropriate. If you want structure, interaction, and personalized guidance, live mentoring provides a higher-touch preparation experience.
Do you provide PgMP® application writing and review support?
Yes. Augment provides PgMP® application writing and review support to help candidates understand how to document their genuine project and program management experience clearly and effectively.
Support can include guidance on structuring experience summaries, reviewing application content, and identifying areas that may require clarification.
The objective is to help you accurately communicate your own experience. Your application must reflect your actual professional experience and remain consistent with PMI’s requirements.
How does Augment approach PgMP® scenario-based exam preparation?
PgMP® preparation should go beyond memorizing definitions. The preparation approach focuses on developing the program-management mindset required to analyze complex situations and determine an appropriate course of action. This includes:
- Understanding core program-management concepts
- Applying concepts to practical situations
- Working through scenario-based questions
- Analyzing why one response may be more appropriate than another
- Identifying knowledge and mindset gaps
- Building exam-taking strategies through practice
PMI’s current PgMP® examination consists of 170 questions with 240 minutes of exam time and covers five domains.
How much time should I plan for PgMP® preparation?
There is no single preparation timeline that works for every candidate. Your preparation time will depend on factors such as:
- Your program-management experience
- Familiarity with PMI’s program-management concepts
- Your current knowledge gaps
- Your weekly study availability
- Your preferred learning approach
- Your level of exam readiness
A consistent study schedule is generally more useful than simply trying to complete a certain number of hours.
The Live Mentoring Program provides a structured preparation rhythm, while Self-Paced Learning allows you to plan your preparation around your own schedule.
Do you provide practice questions and mock exams for PgMP® preparation?
The preparation resources include exam-style practice questions and exam-focused learning resources designed to help candidates apply concepts and identify knowledge gaps.
Where included in the selected program or preparation package, additional mock exams or exam simulations can provide an opportunity to practice under timed conditions.
Important: Practice questions provided by Augment are preparation resources and are not actual PMI examination questions.
Do I need to be PMP® certified before pursuing PgMP®?
No. PMP® certification is not mandatory for PgMP®.
PMI’s current eligibility pathways allow candidates to satisfy the project-management experience requirement through qualifying project-management experience or PMP® certification, together with the required program-management experience and education pathway.
For example, under PMI’s bachelor’s-degree pathway, a candidate can qualify with either 48 months of project management experience or PMP® certification, plus 48 months of program management experience within the applicable 15-year period.
How do I choose the right PgMP® preparation program?
Consider the level of flexibility and support you need.
Choose PgMP® Self-Paced Learning if you:
- Prefer independent study
- Need maximum scheduling flexibility
- Are comfortable managing your own preparation
- Want structured content and practice resources without regular live sessions
Choose PgMP® Live Mentoring if you:
- Prefer a structured preparation journey
- Want direct interaction with an experienced mentor
- Need personalized feedback on your preparation
- Want application writing/review guidance
- Benefit from discussing scenarios and concepts with an expert
The right option depends on your experience, preparation style, schedule, and level of support required.
